Having just received my Sente this past week and have now installed/setup the unit, I thought I'd share some roadblocks I encountered and encourage others to share what solutions they're finding.

-Power Cord: initially I thought the power cord needed to go out one of the 2 circular cutouts at the bottom of the unit but even if you're going out to an external outlet you're supposed to go out the circular cutout on the bottom back right. Initially it didn't seem like there was enough room between the LED lighting and the wall but there is.

  • Sometimes when I'm launching a game and I'm standing in the Player 1 spot it actually reads the Player 2 controls as the ones I need to use and I need to switch over real quick. Not sure how to fix this but working on it.
  • I can see the 1TB storage getting filled up relatively quick with some of the bigger games (Mortal Kombat=100GB), so wondering if I can just plug in an external SSD into one of the open USD ports - assuming so but please advise if anyone's done that and if there are any unique steps for the AGS to read those games.
  • Is there a template for where to put the magnet decals that came through? It's not the bigger version that is shown on some units so I wasn't sure whether it was just put them on however you want or there was a recommended template.

Outside of these issues it's been fantastic and the build quality, out of the box "useability" has been exactly what I've been expecting. I'd love to hear what side scrollers and other old time games people are enjoying!

Hey!

  • Player 1 / player 2: These types of issues are split based on what game type you're using:
    - ROMs: Should not suffer from this issue.
    - Polycade store games: Should not suffer from this issue.
    - Steam games: Steam is generally unstandardized for things like this, so each game might consider a different controller as the "player 1" controller. Some games (like mortal kombat) choose "player 1" based on who pressed start first. Others (Pac-Man on Steam), force the player 2 controller as p1. Typically, Steam games don't allow any way to change this - maybe there's a way to do it with Steam's per-game config options, or some third party software, but we haven't tested this.

  • You can add a SSD via usb, but this will be very slow to launch games like Mortal Kombat. The mini PC does have a SATA connection on the bottom, this would be a higher speed way to add a hard drive. The only issue here is that the mini PC doesn't have a way to power another hard drive, so you'd need some kind of external power source for the 2nd drive.

  • The magnet decals that were included are just for fun! Make a picture frame on your fridge, or decorate you Sente with a custom retro stripe pattern like this: https://youtu.be/MPgWn3U1mJ0
