Hey everyone,I recently set up the arcade classic Gorf on my Polycade using MAME 0.213. While the game included a functioning digital version of the light-up rank system on the lower right, the screen felt a bit incomplete without the original arcade-style bezel.
Getting a custom overlay to sync correctly with the game's dynamic rank lamps was a challenge. I owe a huge thank you to RetroPie forum members Clyde, Riverstorm, and UDb23. One of them designed the master graphic, and UDb23 worked out the original MAME lamp code for RetroPie.
To bring this to the Polycade, I adapted their work into a custom MAME .lay (layout) file and created seven full-sized overlay graphics:
Base Bezel: All rank lamps turned off (for when the game is idle or just starting).
6 Rank Bezels: A unique overlay variation for each individual rank lamp.
As you play through Gorf's five distinct stages and advance in rank, the custom layout code automatically swaps the background image in real time to light up your newly achieved status.
How to get the files:
I don't have a permanent file-hosting server set up just yet, so I am sharing these directly for now. If you want to add this bezel to your cabinet, just reply to this thread or shoot me a message! I will gladly send over the files and include the step-by-step installation instructions.
Long-term, I hope to find a permanent hosting spot for a download link. Alternatively, if the Polycade team sees this and wants to help me make it officially available to the community, I'd love to team up!Let me know if you're interested!
Thanks Bigdog!
